Women’s Running Shoes

Women’s Running Shoes, What to Know and What to Buy

“Shrink ‘em and pink ‘em”.

This is how sportswear companies describe women’s running shoes as it becomes no more than a men’s shoe in feminine colors. They recognize the market potential of the female runners, thus, the start of various designs and engineered running shoes for females.

Sportswear companies take note that women are very different from men, and those differences give insight on how to design such running shoes. There are a few differences between males and females regarding their running bio-mechanics, and these differences are being utilized by the companies to make women’s running shoes.

Women have wider Q-angle due to larger hips leading to more pronation than men. A different midsole/outsole is needed on the women’s version, and a combination of shapes and materials that can offer women the extra support they need.

Less body mass for women (15% less statistically) implying that women’s version of the shoe is lower or softer. For the same reason, the flex grooves need to be more emphasized in the women’s running shoes, as the lower body mass makes it more difficult to flex the foam material of the midsole and needs to be aided.

Different foot shapes between men and women of the same stature as men have broader and longer feet. Results show that women’s feet have different shape characteristics than men’s, especially in the arch, the first toe, the lateral side, and the ball of the foot. This factor tackles the last of a shoe (the shape around which the upper of the shoe is constructed). It is the feature of each brand and very crucial to the final fit of the shoe around the foot.

Now that we learned some differences between men’s and women’s feet, along with different foot types and pronation, you can now choose the best running shoes.

Remember that if you are an overpronator and a flat feet runner, the best choice for you should be a motion control running shoes such as Brrooks Beast 10 for about $130, Saucony Progrid Stabil CS Running Shoes for $115, Nike Zoom Nucleus + MC Running Shoes for $120,  and Asics Evolution 4 Running Shoes for $110. These shoes emphasize medial support by having dual density midsoles, roll bars or foot bridges. This medial (inside support) support slows the rate of over pronation.

For neutral pronator, use stability shoes such as Asics GT 2140 Running Shoes for $100,Nike LunarGlide+ Running Shoes for $99, New Balance 850 Running Shoes for $115 and New Balance 1224 Running Shoes for $135. These shoes combine cushioning features and support features into its design.

If you are a supinator or underpronator, buy cushioning shoes such as Asics Nimbus 10 Running Shoes for $120 and Asics Womens GEL-Nimbus 11 for $125. These womens running shoes emphasize enhanced shock dispersion in its midsole and/or outsole design. Many shoe companies add materials to the heel and forefoot areas to enhance the cushioning properties of the shoe i.e. air, gel, hydro flow etc.

Womens Hiking Shoes

Looking for Womens Hiking Shoes? Try Merell

In hiking, choosing the right hiking shoes is just as important as bringing the right gear. There is no replacement for the ideal hiking shoes, considering the walking and trekking that you have to do. A lot of women are engaging in this sport nowadays, so it is important to provide tips on how to choose the right women’s hiking shoes.

It is of utmost importance to understand the features of hiking shoes and how they work in order to choose the right one for you. To better understand, here are the main characteristics of hiking shoes in general.

Hiking shoes should be lightweight. A general rule in hiking is to go light. While your backpack accounts for most of the weight you’ll be carrying on the trail, your hiking boots also add some considerable weight to your legs. That’s why you need women’s hiking boots that are lightweight. The lighter the weight of your women’s hiking shoes is, the easier your walking will be.

Next to weight in importance is the water resistant capability of your women’s hiking shoes. When it comes to hiking, one of your biggest enemies is moisture or water. That’s why your shoes should be breathable and made of watertight material at the same time. Next is lateral rigidity. A good pair of women’s hiking shoes is one that can support your feet and ankles, and keep them from twisting on uneven surfaces. Look for women’s hiking shoes that have a higher upper, as these usually have stiff ankle supports.

Another is strong arch support. Aside from supporting your ankles from twisting and your feet from over-bending, your hiking shoes should also support the arch of your feet so your feet will not flatten out under heavy pressure. A curved shank between the midsole and insole of your women’s hiking shoes is often inserted to provide arch support.

Baby Name Brand Shoes

Baby Name Brand Shoes: Mary Janes for those Little Feet

Shopping for your baby is not an easy thing to do. Being a mother, I find buying baby stuff difficult sometimes not because of the lack of choices, but because there were simply too many! Especially when it comes to baby shoes, there are a whole lot of baby name brand shoes to choose from, not to mention there are many types as well. From firstwalkers, prewalkers, booties, Mary Janes, soft sole and hard sole shoes, you have to carefully consider what shoes to buy for your baby depending on her size, outfit, and the weather or season.

I have a baby girl and there are still a few months to go before she will be able to take her first few steps. Walking is very important milestone for both baby and parents, and it is essential to pick the right shoe to make your child’s early walking experience a very comfortable, not to mention, a fashionable one.

I am a big fan of Mary Jane shoes because of the classic and feminine design, and it never goes out of style. There are a lot of styles to choose from for baby Mary Janes from the dressy black patent type to the casual and comfy casual skimmers or ballerina flats type, I personally prefer the ballerina flats Mary Janes because the plain black patents have a very school girly and formal appeal which is a little dull for me. There is an assortment of styles to choose from for the Mary Jane skimmers, Some have plain colors, fun patterns or cute embellishments. Plus, these shoes are comfy so you wouldn’t worry about your little girl’s delicate feet.

Being a first-time mom, I was surprised at first that a lot of baby stuff are expensive, and that includes shoes. To my amusement, some are even pricier than adult shoes. It is important to scout first the types of baby shoes available to find the best pair in terms of comfort, durability, design, and price. Some stores offer the same brand at a much lower price (although not necessarily the same style).

Some stores offer Keds Mary Janes for just $12 like the Keds Champion Toe Cap Sneaker for toddlers. The newest Keds kids designs sell for $44 such as the Keds Kids Teagan Mary Janes. The leather upper with embroidered flowers or butterflies give the classic Mary Jane style a modern spin. It has a textile lining and cushioned footbed for comfort, an elasticized collar and strap for a custom and comfortable fit, and a lightweight and flexible outsole.

I also like Pablosky Kids Mary Janes. Most of the designs costs $46.95, with different prints to choose from like floral, plain or checkered. A design that caught my attention was the adorable green spring ballet flat which gives the patent type a fresh new look. It has a printed leather upper with bow and a lightly padded leather lining and footbed. The downside is that these little things costs $74.50 on sale!

Whatever style or brand you choose, always keep in mind that comfort should always be the priority. You don’t want your little one’s feet to have blisters. The good news is since there are countless brands and styles available, you could always choose a comfortable pair – without shelling out an arm and a leg, and sacrificing style.

Cheap Name Brand Shoes

Cheap Name Brand Shoes, Go Comfy – Get A Pair of Skimmers!

Skimmers or the casual ballerina flats, are slowly replacing flip flops as the staple everyday footwear of a lot of women nowadays. The traditional ballet flats are inspired by ballet slippers, having a flat heel, closed toe, slipper-like construction, and are typically low cut, thus, showing a lot of the top of the foot. The traditional type is usually dressy, such as those worn by Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis back in the 1960’s. The casual type is sometimes called “skimmers,” which is somewhat similar to low cut sneakers but having a slip-on or Mary Jane design. These shoes are usually made of canvas, which can either be plain or adorned with cute and funky designs.

Offering more coverage and support than the flip flops, skimmers are becoming increasingly popular among cheap name brand shoes at present not only because it is light and comfy, but because it gives a look that is more “put-together” than the overly casual flip flops at a very affordable price.

Keds, the original sneakers – classic canvas shoe with rubber soles, offers a wide array of skimmers with different models. Aside from the flat skimmers, they also have the wedge-type which has a 3-inch heel. The wedge type offers a fresh alternative to the usual skimmers, gives a more sophisticated look, and spice up any causal outfit. One of the cheapest Keds skimmers out in the market is the Keds Ahoy flats with a price ranging from $13 to $23. It has a stripe canvas upper with a fishnet overlay, a padded footbed which supplies lightweight cushioning, and a rubber outsole that provides excellent traction. For the wedge type, the Keds Dallas Calypso Coral only costs $26. It is a casual canvas slip-on wedge style with a round toe, fabric lining and cushioning insole, 1/2 inch faux leather or fabric-wrapped midsole, textile and rubber traction outsole, 3 inch fabric-wrapped wedge heel. Its bright and cheerful design can amp up even a simple casual look.

Rocket Dog is another popular brand of skimmers. However, this brand does not have the wedge-type. The Rocket Dog Klash 2 skimmer, which costs $30.95 has a cute and fun design, a rubber upper and a non-slip sole. Another funky design is the Kitten Sneaker Rosebud silky type, which costs $33.99, with a 0 inch heel and bow embellishment. The advantage of Keds over rocket Dog is that the former has more styles and has a wider price range, ranging from as low as $13 to around $75, giving the customers more options depending on designs and budget.

Skimmers is one comfy versatile shoe that fits laid back and spontaneous women who are always on the go. With many styles to choose from, you can pick a design depending on your mood and personal style. You can wear it with almost any casual outfit – skinny jeans, shorts, miniskirts and cropped pants. Whether you are heading to the grocery, hitting the stores at the mall, going to school, or just taking a leisurely walk, skimmers is definitely the shoe that fits.

Kids Name Brand Shoes

Kids Name Brand Shoes for Little Fashionistas

When shopping for my little girl, I notice that most kids’ clothes and shoes out in the market are mini replicas of some of the recent styles for adults. The tiered or tulle skirt, tank tops, graphic shirts, mini dresses, skimmers or ballet flats, and even dress shoes with heels are all over stores. At first I am not too keen on letting my daughter wear heels at such a young age, but recent designs of kids name brand shoes are made comfortable and trendy. Suri Cruise, the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, and considered as the most fashionable celebrity kid was spotted wearing heels.

One shoe that suits the little fashionistas is the Shoo Be Doo kiddie pumps. Shoe Be Doo is the inspiration of a mother who, frustrated by the lack of quality, and fashionable footwear for her children, decided to “DOO” something about it. She went to Italy, enlisted the best children’s shoe makers she could find and since 1982 has brought “state of the art” children’s footwear to America. Shoo Be Doo pumps have a luxurious style, a suede upper with gorgeously shiny trim and girly bow, slip-on style for easy on and off, soft leather lining, cushioned footbed for all-day comfort, durable rubber outsole and a 1.75” heel. All Shoe Be Doo shoes are unique because they are now and have always been handcrafted in Italy, which explains why these little things cost $127, and now on sale for $93.

A slightly cheaper alternative is from the shoe brand Amiana kids. Amiana kids’ shoes are a delightful collection of kids’ designer shoes. The use of metallic threads, raw silk and leather, they offer cutting edge fashion that was age appropriate. The styles have a women’s feel and look, but are always tasteful and appropriate for girls. The shoes are handmade with the finest leathers and materials in factories in Spain and Italy. The Amiana purple suede dress shoes is a serious statement maker. It is made from sumptuous suede upper with fun and girly pom-pom detail at the toe, slip-on style for easy dressing, soft leather lining, cushioned leather footbed for all-day comfort, durable rubber outsole and a   1.5″ heel. It costs $96 and now on sale for $77.50.

Cute wedges for little girls can be found at Sugar Kids. Sugar consistently comes out with amazingly fun and cheery prints for young girls that the brand has come to be known for. The shoes delight the senses with creative use of fabrics and other materials to create a look that’s distinctive. The Sugar Kids Black Tie Pie has a velvet upper that gives an air of sophistication, an adorable bow detail across the toe, crepe textured rubber outsole provides traction and a 2″ heel. At $44, it is slightly cheaper than the patent leather dress shoes.

Whatever style you choose for your little girl, make sure that the shoes is not just fashionable, but comfortable at the same time. Another thing to consider is that it should be age appropriate. You wouldn’t want your child to look like a little old lady, anyway.

Womens Name Brand Shoes

Womens Name Brand Shoes, Take a Cue from Paris Hilton

“Paris Hilton Footwear is perfect for the fashion-forward young woman who wants to look and feel great from head-to-toe, without spending a fortune.” – Paris Hilton

I have always admired Paris Hilton, the famous love her-or-hate her hotel heiress, socialite, actress, fashion designer and entrepreneur, not because of her countless scandals and controversies but because of her distinctive fashion sense. From her different hairstyles, clothes, accessories and shoes, she never fails to express her style and individuality. She recently launched her Paris Hilton shoe collection, one of the newest name brand shoes, at Macy’s South Coast Plaza, offering a wide array of shoe designs – pumps, boots, ballet flats, wedges and sandals.

I find her collection of pumps very impressive. The shoe designs remind me of Christian Louboutins, only a lot more affordable. My personal favorite is the women’s black peep-toe Destiny Paris Hilton pumps. A real entrepreneur indeed, because she patronizes her own products, Paris Hilton was spotted wearing her Destiny pumps in Beverly Hills last January 14, 2010. The Destiny pumps has a man-made sole, 4” heel and 1.25” platform, wrapped heel, patent leather or smooth leather upper, and a flirty bow embellishment  that wraps the vamp for a lively finish. What’s special about the Destiny pumps and the rest of the Paris Hilton shoe designs is the heart-shaped comfort pad sewn into the inner sole for comfort. Definitely the right shoes for clubbing and dancing all night long. The soles of the shoes are pink, which according to Paris, herself, makes them look super cute.

The Destiny pumps are available in five different colors and textures – black croco patent, black smooth, black patent, brown suede, and olive croco patent. All are in neutral and semi-neutral colors, which make it versatile and wearable with a wide range of outfits. They are on sale at $77 a pair (previously $ 93.00) at Zappos, $89 at Macy’s and shopping.com – relatively inexpensive compared to other designer or couture pumps which costs $300 or more. The Clarice and Gilian pumps from Kate Spade, which are similar in design to the Destiny pumps, costs $216.90 and $325, respectively, and only come in two different colors.  On the other hand, similar styles from Alexander McQueen cost around $700.

The only competition of the Destiny pumps in terms of style, price and comfort is the Toppazz Steve Madden pumps. It has five different colors – black, blue, gray, purple and red, a deep suede upper with a decorative ruffle at the vamp, 4.5” heel and 0.75” platform. It has a lightly cushioned man-made footbed for added comfort. It costs $99.90 at Zappos, which is slightly more expensive than the Destiny pumps. The ruffle embellishment in the Topazz is slightly more durable than the ribbon in Destiny. However, the Destiny pumps are more comfortable despite its high heels and platform, because the cushion is placed right at the ball of the foot.

Overall, the Destiny Paris Hilton pumps is a versatile shoe that lends a glamorous feel to any outfit – classy enough to wear to church, weddings, or work, and chick and sexy for parties and dancing.   This shoe is definitely a catch – stylish without shelling out big bucks.
